Surveys
 
  1. Traditional methods to collect topographic data include use of level total station and now Differential GPS.
     
  2. Differential GPS has increased speed that surveys can be done.
     
  3. Accurracy depends upon how close spot elevations are to each other.
     
  4. Elevation is often collected in assumed coordinates, but should be tied into real world coordinates.
     
  5. Engineering firms and local governments often maintain copies of local surveys that contain topographic data.
