New Chair for Canadian Section of International Joint Commission
The Right Honourable Herb Gray Sworn In

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced changes to the Ministry. The Prime Minister also announced that Her Excellency the Governor General has elevated the Honourable Herb Gray to the highest title that can be given to holders of public office in Canada, that of "Right Honourable". Mr. Gray is leaving Cabinet to become Chair of the Canadian Section of the International Joint Commission. Mr. Gray replaces Mary Gusella who has been appointed Senior Advisor to the Privy Council Office.
Following his appointment to the International Joint Commission, the Right Hon. Herb Gray will subscribe a solemn declaration that he will faithfully and impartially perform the duties imposed upon him under the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. Mr. Gray is expected to make his declaration today [1/16/02] at 2:30 p.m at the IJC Canadian Sections office in Ottawa. Pursuant to paragraph 2(2) of the Commissions Rules of Procedure, Commissioner Gray has been elected Chairman of the Canadian Section of the International Joint Commission.
Mr. Gray has served as Deputy Prime Minister since June, 1997. He has worked extensively as a Minister and as an M.P. in the fields of parliamentary affairs, economic and industrial development, finance, consumer protection, competition, international trade, foreign investment and more recently federal law enforcement matters.
