| Manitoba CEC Hearings to Resume by Early April
[Excerpts from CEC Website and Commission Instructions]
On Tuesday, January 28, 2003, in response to motions filed by Dr. John Sinclair, the Manitoba Clean Environment Commission announced its decision to obtain additional information and resume its hearings on the City of Winnipeg's September release of raw sewage into the Red River by early April 2003.
The Commission issued instructions that the City of Winnipeg submit an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) "respecting the proposed plan for the continued operation and future development of the City of Winnipeg wastewater collection and treatment system" for its review. The CEC will also request that Environment Canada provide a report on the status of its investigation into the incident by March 10.
The Commission stated its intent to file interim recommendations concerning the impacts and responses to the spill with the Minister of Conservation by April 1.
