Corps Awards Phase 3 Levees Contract for Grand Forks

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded Construction Engineers, Ltd., of Grand Forks, N.D., a $14.5 million contract March 16 to construct the phase three levees at its Grand Forks, N.D., flood control project.

The project consists of building three pump stations, nearly three miles of levees, approximately one mile of concrete floodwall and recreation facilities. This work is expected to begin this April and be complete in April 2006. The total construction cost of phase three will be $21.6 million, with the additional $7.1 million being awarded when real estate becomes available.

Construction of the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks flood control project began in 2000 and the total cost of the project is estimated at $393 million. The design level of protection is equivalent to the peak discharge experienced during the 1997 flood in this city.
