Corps of Engineers to move historical
structures in Grand Forks, N.D.

(Excerpts from a July 6th, 2004 US Army Corps of Engineers
Press Release)
SAINT PAUL, MINN. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District,
awarded A & S, LLC, of Climax, Minn., a $648,000 contract June 23 to
relocate five historically significant structures in Grand Forks, N.D.,
as part of its flood control project there.
The project consists of moving the historically registered Campbell
House, along with other Myra Museum structures, including the carriage
house and garden house, a school and a post office out of the path of a
floodwall. The work is expected to begin in July and be complete this fall.

The Grand Forks/East Grand Forks flood control project consists of
building levees and floodwall to protect the communities of Grand Forks
and East Grand Forks. Additionally, it includes stabilizing an existing
dam, removing a railroad bridge, closures for numerous roads, extending
and expanding an existing diversion channel and constructing a new
diversion channel. The design level of protection is equivalent to the
peak discharge experienced during the 1997 flood in this city.

Construction of the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks flood control
project began in 2000 and the total cost of the project is estimated at
$402 million.
